Impotence - Is It the Same as Erectile Dysfunction?

Just have a look at all these numerous websites! What do they write? "Erectile dysfunction, also called impotence, can affect men of... " or "Erectile dysfunction (impotence) is a very... " or "Take the Impotence (Erectile Dysfunction, ED) drugs and... ". Doesn't this mean that impotence and erectile dysfunction is one and the same thing?! You wouldn't believe me if I tell you: "Half and half".

I am not an impotent!

Oh, I am not going to spare your feelings saying that "erectile dysfunctions" stand for some departures from the norm while "impotence" describes only neglected cases! To define this issue exactly I want to say that impotence always implies erectile dysfunctions but erectile dysfunction may not seems impotence in the most cases. And if you faced some erection problems it doesn't mean that you are an impotent. It means that you have some problems with your health. Let's try and get a fix on the problem.

When I first faced erection problem (I was 36 then), that produced a great emotional reaction in my mind. I felt shot down and was under a really great stress. I think now that such psychological state can further affect normal sexual function by itself! I had a perpetual din in my head and heard nothing but: "I am an impotent! I am an impotent! I am an impotent!" It was really terrible!

Of course I was supposed not to get into a flap and had to consult an urologist as soon as possible. But I wasn't prepared for such a shock! I know a lot of information now and if I had known it at that time, I would have been easy in my mind! If I had known that impotent is a man who actually cannot have sexual intercourses at all but not a man who faces certain problems from time to time! If I had had such information at that time, I would have saved a lot of my nerve cells!

Impotence is a special case of erectile dysfunctions

I know perfectly now that impotence is the most difficult case of erectile dysfunction. In other words, if a man can't perform a sexual act in the proper way because of his poor erection, it means that the man as a rule has erectile dysfunction. According to special surveys, there are a lot of men suffering from... let's say from poor erection quality and there are not so many people with zero degree of erection! Thus you should remember this very well - impotence is the most difficult and grave case of erectile dysfunction. And the term "impotence" is a rather uncommon among the doctors not because they are so tactful but because they can tell the difference between these notions.

So what about the terms "erectile dysfunction drugs" and "impotence drugs"? These terms stand for the same medicines. And both terms are absolutely right because these drugs can help all categories of men, even those ones suffering from the most serious cases of erectile dysfunctions, that is, from impotence.
