Can Masturbation Lead To Impotence?

Thomas S. Szasz, an Hungarian psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus at State University of New York, said in the beginning of the past century that "Masturbation is the primary sexual activity of mankind. In the nineteenth century it was a disease; in the twentieth, it's a cure." I think that he wasn't quite right because such sexual activity had been considered as disease during many centuries. And not only as disease but also as a vile sin. The fact is that different cultures people had different attitude to the process of masturbation. In ancient times Egyptians treated it as a sin, while Greeks and Romans featured tolerance upon the onanism. People in Europe displayed another attitude towards the masturbation. In the Renaissance this sexual activity was thought to be a sign of a serious mental disease.
Self Improvement is Masturbation
What is the main reason for men to masturbate? It is in the nature of the human beings (I am talking about boys) since it is connected with pleasant sensations they feel because of the pollution (nocturnal emission). These sensations make boys to masturbate just to repeat the experience. It is no wonder that a vast majority of men often masturbate even if they have regular sexual relations. In some particular cases the masturbation is a way to relax and it is quite normal for men. In some other cases the masturbation is a chance to escape from difficulties and it may become a rather serious problem because in this case a sense of guilt appears. This sense can lead to anxiety and stress. No wonder that men masturbate then just to escape from these feelings. It is a real vicious closed circle! And it is no wonder that this unpleasant emotional experience can lead to erectile dysfunction. The masturbation itself as a kind of sexual activity can't lead to impotence!
Of course such modern remedies as Viagra, Cialis or Levitra are, can help any man even if he suffers from a great sense of quilt connected with masturbation. But each man should ask himself: is the masturbation for him the only way to get pleasure? And if he masturbates from time to time just to relax I doubt that this process can lead him to the problems connected with impotence. I am sure (and I said it a lot of times!) that any man should have a sense of harmony! If you don't have this sense, it is no matter whether you masturbate a lot of times per day or have several sexual partners simultaneously because in this case you only risk loosing your balance and get some sexual problems. And don't long for idealism because as a character of Brad Pitt said, "Self Improvement is Masturbation"!
